In early June, the Joint Analytical Cell proudly hosted an event at the 3rd UN Ocean Conference (UNOC3), bringing together a vibrant community of partners, supporters, and leaders dedicated to combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the power of collaboration and shared expertise in protecting our oceans.
Reflecting on our successes
We were honored to welcome distinguished guests, including Annette Gibbons, Associate Deputy Minister at Fisheries and Oceans Canada, who reaffirmed Canada’s steadfast support for the JAC’s mission. It was inspiring to see representatives from governments, NGOs, and organizations such as CCAMLR and CMAR, all united by a shared commitment to ocean governance. Special thanks to Natali Giomi from Skylight, Gareth Johnstone from TMT, Antoine Gaston Djihinto from the Fisheries Committee for West Africa, and Khallahi Brahim from the Sub-Regional Fisheries Commission for speaking at the event.
Impact and Innovation
Launched at the 2nd UN Ocean Conference in 2022, the JAC was founded on a simple yet powerful principle: no single organization, country, or technology can tackle IUU fishing alone. By uniting the expertise, innovative technology, and local knowledge of five leading organizations, the JAC has become a trusted global leader in strengthening fisheries monitoring, control, and surveillance. Together, we deliver high-quality fisheries intelligence, empower partners to make informed decisions, and drive real change in the fight against IUU fishing. No other collaboration has brought together such a comprehensive suite of technical tools, intelligence and expertise to strengthen marine resource management.
Showcasing the JAC’s Unique Role
Across a number of events at UNOC3, the JAC highlighted its role as a bridge between stakeholders, including governments, NGOs and IGOs - fostering partnerships and enabling shared solutions. By convening cutting-edge technology, expert capacity building, and high-quality intelligence, the JAC supports countries to deliver impactful enforcement outcomes. Recent successes include Panama’s historic seizure of illegal vessels and the West Africa Task Force’s advancements in capacity building.
As we reflect on the progress made over the past three years, we are energized by the opportunities ahead. The JAC’s event at UNOC3 provided a unique platform for informal networking and learning, bringing together the JAC community and those interested in learning more about our mission.
Thank you to all our partners, supporters, and attendees for making this event a success.
